Fall Campus and Community Services

A variety of services are available to those participating in the Fall Housing Intern Program.

To familiarize yourself with the campus, residence halls, and services available please see below.

Campus Services

The Department of Public Safety staff is on duty 24 hours a day, and regularly patrols around campus buildings and surroundings.

DPS officers are available to provide escorts and will respond to emergencies. It is suggested that guests use good judgment when walking at night, as one would in any large city. Emergency phones with blue lights highlighting their position are located all over campus with direct access to Public Safety.

For security purposes, entrances to all residence halls are secured 24 hours a day and can only be accessed by residents of those buildings. Information on campus crime prevention and emergency procedures is available on the Safety First, Safety Always Web site.

To find out more about the services offered by the Department of Public Safety, call 202-319-5111 (or x5111 from any campus phone). You can also visit their Web site for further information.

Parking Services: Parking on campus is by permit only. To find out more about permit costs, or to purchase a parking permit please contact the Department of Public Safety.

Mail Service: The university has a post office on campus, on the ground level of McMahon Hall, where stamps and other postal items can be purchased and mailed. Fall Interns will be issued a mailbox. Mail can be picked-up during the hours McMahon Hall is open; these hours are generally 6:30 a.m. - 10 p,m,. Packages can be picked-up from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you cannot make these hours and have received a package notice, you may authorize a friend to claim your package. Other options for postal service include USPS with convenient locations at the National Capitol branch near Union Station and the Brookland branch on 12th Street near campus. More information is available on the CUA Postal Services Web site and the USPS Web site.

Fitness Center: Participants of the Fall Housing Intern Program will be able to take advantage of the Kane Fitness Center, located on the CUA campus. For more information about the fitness center and its hours, please visit its Web site.

Maintenance and Custodial Requests: The Office of Facilities Maintenance and Operations (FMO) provides custodial, maintenance, and pest control services within the residential facilities. Requests for routine services can be submitted to FMO using the work order request form. When entering requests, it is important to provide detailed information so the maintenance technician is fully prepared to respond to the problem. Residents are encouraged to immediately phone in all emergency requests to the Facilities Service Center at extension 5121 during normal working hours (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or the Department of Public Safety at extension 5111 after normal working hours. All questions and/or concerns regarding service requests should be directed to the service center at extension 5121 or cua-fmo@cua.edu.

After-hours emergencies involving heating, lighting, plumbing, electricity or other vital services can be immediately reported to an RA or the RA on duty. Interns should contact their RHO with on-going concerns, repeated maintenance requests and any difficulties in having issues addressed. If interns do not report facility concerns in the room when they occur, they may be billed for damaged or broken items at checkout.

Custodial staff performs routine cleaning of public areas. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms, suites, and apartments including kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms.

Medical Services: The university maintains a list of urgent care centers in the DC metro area that interns may find helpful. In addition, Providence Hospital is a short distance from CUA.
